Material Design for Disassembly A circular textile created by the Conscious Textile Group

The Conscious Textile Group, a joint initiative of MOME and Nanushka, has developed a circular textile solution focused on improving the recycling of post-consumer textile waste. Traditional textile recycling struggles with complex garment blends, often leading to downcycling. The group's project centers on creating high-quality, durable non-woven textiles from 100% recycled fibers, specifically a wool and polyester blend. By using a "design for disassembly" approach, these textiles are stitched with a water-soluble thread, allowing them to be easily disassembled and recycled without degrading the fibers. This process enables continuous recycling, preserving the quality of materials over multiple cycles and promoting a more sustainable, circular fashion industry.
