Metabolism Dress
During the creation of the Metabolism Dress Cindy Fodor explored the question of how aesthetics can be rethought in a new way at the level of material production. When creating bioplastics, Cindy Fodor focuses on experimentation, the result of which forms a contrast to conventional standardised materials. With her bioplastic fabrics, the artist wants to challenge conventions and explore new aesthetic possibilities. The name of the Metabolism dress refers to a new era of material production in which we are currently living. The fashion designer used her own bioplastic which she cooks in her home laboratory. Most of the time she works with agar agar or alginate in order to create bioplastics. She first designed the material, then draw the applications. After the materials were cooked and dried, she laser-cutted the bioplastic in a maker lab. The last step was to place the applications onto each other so that she can sew the more than 150 pieces together by hand.
The project created by Cindy Fodor.
