responSOLE

The responSOLE_project is an industrially compostable shoe collection with a focus on the sole material. The composite material of bioplastics and hemp that I have developed over two years of research is not only foamable and wearable but also suitable for mass production. Native to central Europe, hemp is an excellent renewable material resource that functions as a fibre reinforcement and filler and also reduces the cost of biopolymer production. My main goal was to replace the environmentally harmful materials currently used in the footwear industry. So I replaced all the materials used in today's shoe production with biodegradable or industrially compostable materials. The shapes of the shoes are inspired by nature's structures, adapted to the material, which appear from the sole to the upper. The imprint of the sole communicates an educational purpose.
