2E: Future of Design for Humanity - Masterclass with Chris Bangle
Legendary designer behind BMW, Mini Cooper & Rolls Royce, and currently Managing Director of his own firm, Chris Bangle will give an exclusive Masterclass at this year's Future Materials Conference!
Chris Bangle, an American designer, began his career at Opel and Fiat before becoming BMW's first American Chief of Design in 1992, where he introduced bold, sculptural design elements that transformed the brand's image. After leaving BMW in 2009, he founded Chris Bangle Associates in Italy, where he leads a diverse team in projects ranging from car design to animation. His innovative work has earned him numerous awards, including the Lifetime Design Achievement Award in 2012 and the Compasso d’Oro Career Award in 2018.
At his upcoming masterclass, Mr. Bangle will discuss the need for a new design philosophy to address the socio-political and ecological challenges posed by the increasing dominance of technology. He argues that current design philosophies are too rooted in industrial modernism and fail to engage people meaningfully. His proposed concept, "Second Existence" (2E), calls for inverting the roles of humans and machines in manufacturing to create a future where humanity remains relevant and can coexist peacefully with technology.
